A Very Special MAM Announcement

The Board of Directors of Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) is pleased to announce that Sonja Gee has agreed to serve as its new President and CEO.

A native Houstonian, Ms. Gee is known for her visionary leadership of faith-based organizations with a focus on transforming lives of the community’s most vulnerable. She most recently served as the Executive Director at Main Street Ministries in the revitalization of its ministry to the homeless and families in recovery.

Ms. Gee’s creative, entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-found Libreria Mundo an independent book business providing educational materials to the community of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. The business has celebrated its 15th anniversary and is the largest supplier in the area. Ms Gee has degrees from Rice University and Stanford University.

Ms. Gee told the board and staff at MAM that “MAM is an extraordinary organization and I look forward to the opportunity to lead its exceptional team in this new chapter."

Chris Chandler, Chairman of the MAM Board of Directors said "We are pleased to welcome Sonja to MAM. Sonja’s experience, education and values are clearly aligned with the mission of MAM. We look forward to working with her as MAM continues to provide resources for the most economically vulnerable families in our community. We would also like to thank Martha for her 15 years of service to MAM. She has led MAM through a period of significant growth to become one of the top rated charities in Houston. We wish Martha only the best in retirement.”

Ms. Gee will succeed Martha Macris on August 28, 2019. Ms. Macris, who has been named President Emerita of MAM, will continue her career in nonprofit management as a part-time consultant for Houston area nonprofits and enjoy semi-retirement.
